In August, my faithful husband wrote a heartfelt letter to Pope Francis explaining what happened to our daughter, Isabelle. Today, after work, I went to the mailbox to check the mail as I always do in the afternoon. There was a piece of junk mail, and a second letter with a return address labeled “Apostolic Nunciature.” Apparently, this is kind of like the embassy for the Vatican in the USA. (I had to look it up.) Inside the envelope was a letter from Monsignor Peter B. Wells (Assessor for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State), a picture of the pope, and two rosaries blessed by the pope. What a surprise! The letter assured us of Pope Francis’s prayers and encouraged us to “trust in [God’s] infinite mercy and goodness.”
I take comfort knowing that we are not alone in our struggles. I am proud to be a member of such a massive family – the Catholic Church. Time and time again in the past months I have been reminded that a cushion of prayer is supporting us. I know that on really tough days, there is a network of people who are lifting me up in prayer. Praise God! I am so blessed!
